connection time. This makes it practical to clear down
idle data connections and reestablish them as needed in
the background, as in ISDN (Short-Hold Mode). This is
especially important for economical access to the Inter-
net, file servers and host gateways.
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 supports fax and
data connections to PSTN (Public Switched Telephone
Networks, i.e. conventional analog phone lines) in
accordance with CAPI 2.0. The actual digital/analog
conversion of fax or modem data is performed by the
GSM network operator's modems (V32 at 9600 bit/s).
1.2 The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 fits in the
computer’s PCMCIA slot. The cable supplied is used to
connect it to the GSM cellphone.
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 is an active PC
card. It owes its exeptional capabilities to an internal RISC
processor (an IMS T400 transputer). One MB of memory
on the card makes it possible to offload communications
control and protocol software to the card, thus relieving
the notebook's processor and memory.
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 driver software
is available for the operating sytems MS-DOS, Windows
3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT, and
provides the industry standard application interface
Common ISDN API (CAPI) Version 2.0. The software is
downloaded to the controller from the PC's hard disk and
controls the signaling processes and data transmission.
The integrated communications software FRITZ! by AVM
with FRITZ! for Windows 3.x and FRITZ!32 for Windows
95, Windows 98 and Windows NT is delivered with the
Mobile ISDN-Controller in a single-user license.
With its intuitive user interface, FRITZ! lets you perform
many communications tasks quickly and easily:
• Exchange files with cellular or ISDN remote sites
(FRITZ!data),
Analog connections
