5 Uses of the AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1
5 Uses of the AVM Mobile ISDN-
Controller M1
This chapter describes a variety of possible uses of the
AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 for the operating
systems DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98
and Windows NT. Please note that we can describe only
examples here, not all the possible applications. The last
section of this chapter, 5.6, contains a list of all the
applications mentioned.
When operating the AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1
in GSM, please note the following:
•
The AVM Mobile ISDN-Controller M1 allows your
computer to communicate with ISDN subscribers over
the GSM cellular network using your mobile phone.
Compatible equipment in the ISDN network must
support the ISDN protocol V.110. For optimal data
communications over GSM, the ISDN equipment should
support the Mobile ISDN standard GSM 07.08 (using
the protocols V.110/ISO 3309/X.75). The AVM ISDN-
Controller B1 and T1 series with the latest drivers
fulfil this requirement. Now Mobile ISDN connections
are also possible with the FRITZ!Card series of
passive ISDN-Controllers (FRITZ!Card Classic, PCI,
PnP and PCMCIA). Driver updates for the various
FRITZ!Cards are provided for this purpose on the CD-
ROM in the folder Cardware\ISO3309. These updates
are also available from AVM Support (fax: +49-30-
399 76 266). For more information, please refer to
Section 5.1.
• Please also note that the ISDN-Controllers listed above
use the number dialed to determine whether the call is
an ISDN or a Mobile ISDN connection. When a call is
placed to a GSM subscriber, an “m” at the end of the
number (e.g. “017123456m” or “0172 56789m”)
prompts the ISDN-Controller to set up a Mobile ISDN
connection.
