Controller A1 PCMCIA 1 Introduction 7
1.1 The AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA
The AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA creates the connection
between your PC and the ISDN network. The controllers

interface connects to the ISDN basic rate interface. The ca-
ble to connect the controller to ISDN is included in the scope
of supply.
The Controller A1 PCMCIA is a passive ISDN-Controller which
means that the controller does not contain a processor. The
PCs processor is responsible for all computer operations.
The driver software for the controller is downloaded from the
PCs hard disk. This software controls the signaling process-
es and data transmission.
Two B-channels, each with speeds of 64,000 bit/s, are avail-
able for data and voice transmissions. A D-channel, with a
speed of 16 000 bit/s, is also available for control functions.
The controller A1 PCMCIA is a credit-card-sized ISDN-Control-
ler. The controller is simply inserted into the PCMCIA slot of
your PC. Thanks to PCMCIA technology, the ISDN-Controller is
automatically integrated in the PC thus eliminating the need
to configure interrupts or the I/O address.
Its thin format and low power consumption make it conven-
ient to use in laptops and notebooks.
