Controller A1 PCMCIA – 8 The AVM System Architecture 41
8.3 The AVM System Driver
AVM provides two system drivers for Windows, with similar
functions: the AVM ISDN CAPI port driver and AVM NDIS WAN
CAPI driver. Both drivers are activated by the Dial-Up Net-
work but use different mechanisms and interfaces and/or
protocols in the operating system. The same rates of transfer
are attained for data communication with both drivers.
The ISDN CAPI port driver and NDIS WAN CAPI driver can if
necessary be installed in parallel on a computer.
The AVM system driver allows you to use communication
programs such as the Windows Dial-Up Network which do
not provide any CAPI support in parallel to ISDN software
based on CAPI.
The third AVM system driver, the AVM ISDN TAPI services for
CAPI, allows telephony applications to be used with the AVM
ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA in the Windows 2000, Windows
98 and Windows NT operating systems.
You will find the AVM system driver on the installation CD-
ROM in the folder PROGRAMS\<SYSTEM DRIVER>\<SYSTEM
DRIVER.OPERATING SYSTEM>\<LANGUAGE>. Alternatively, you
can download the driver from the AVM Data Call Center or
from the AVM FTP server on the Internet.
For a precise description of the drivers functions, please re-
fer to the Help file in the appropriate folder. This also con-
tains detailed installation instructions.
AVM ISDN CAPI Port Driver
The AVM ISDN CAPI port driver allows you to use the AVM
ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA like an analog modem.
When using the AVM ISDN CAPI port driver, programs which
are expecting an analog modem can use the ISDN interface.
The wide range of Windows communication options can
therefore be used with the controller A1 PCMCIA.
The AVM ISDN CAPI port driver creates several virtual mo-
dems in your PC. The various modems are pre-configured for
different types of connection. You can, for example, use vir-
