Operating systems today always include their own card and
socket services. Only use these services to avoid the neces-
sity of installing card and socket services from other manu-
facturers.
If no card and socket services are installed on your laptop,
contact the manufacturer of your computer and request their
delivery.
If your computer’s manufacturer is unable to deliver card and
socket services for Windows 3.x, the supplied driver software
is defective or the PC card is to be activated without card and
socket services, you have the option of programming the
hardware of your PCMCIA slot directly. To program the slot,
use an enabler to connect the PC card and your computer.
The enabler is a kind of driver software which accesses the
PCMCIA slot directly. This option is only available if your
computer’s PC Card Interface Controller (PCIC) is Intel-com-
patible and if the I/O address 140 and the interrupt 10 are
available for the AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA. The disad-
vantage of this method is that it usually means that no other
plug-in cards can be used.
Operating the Controller A1 PCMCIA without
Card and Socket Services
The controller A1 PCMCIA can also be operated without card
and socket services. The following conditions must however
be satisfied:
l the PC Card Interface Controller (PCIC) in your computer
must be Intel-compatible,
l the I/O address 140 and the interrupt 10 must be avail-
able in your computer,
l the hardware must have been installed correctly.
