6 Installing the Driver
Software in Windows NT
Specially developed driver software is provided for use in Mi-
crosoft Windows NT. The COMMON-ISDN-API (CAPI) 2.0 pro-
vided supports both 16-bit and 32-bit applications. Applica-
tions in DOS boxes are not supported. However, with this
CAPI driver you can also use existing applications based on
CAPI 1.1. For more information about CAPI, see chapter “The
Applications Interface CAPI 2.0” beginning on page 37.
US only: In addition to the D-channel protocol, ISDN us-
ers in the USA must find out their SPID.
SPID stands for Service Profile IDentifier. A SPID is a number
assigned by your ISDN service provider to each subscriber in-
terface. SPIDs let the ISDN switch know which ISDN services
a given logical terminal (ISDN device) can access. This is par-
ticularly important for ISDN telephones.
6.1 Installing the Driver Software
Insert the controller A1 PCMCIA into the PCMCIA slot before
starting Windows NT! If you do not do this, a smooth AVM
ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA function is not guaranteed.
To install the driver software under Windows NT, proceed as
follows:
1. Insert the AVM ISDN-Controller A1 PCMCIA into your
computer's PCMCIA drive and restart Windows NT.
2. Insert the installation CD-ROM.
3. Open the Windows NT Start menu and select the “Run”
command. Enter the path to your CD-ROM drive and to
the setup program in the command line:
<CD-ROM Drive>:\cardware\a1.pcm\
windows.nt\<language>\setup.exe
Alternatively, you can search for the path using the
“Browse” button. Click “OK” to confirm your entry.
