7.3 Troubleshooting
Not all errors indicate defects in FRITZ!X PC or your terminal
equipment. This section describes the most common error
conditions with their most likely causes and remedies.
Begin by performing the following checks:
l Do the LEDs on your FRITZ!X PC indicate normal operati-
on? The LED signals are described in the section
“FRITZ!X PC LEDs” on page 11.
l Is FRITZ!X PC operational? The green LED labeled “Po-
wer” should be lit.
l Test the “Phone” LED for each extension:
If you pick up the handset of an extension phone, or if
the extension has an active connection, this is indica-
ted by an amber LED. Incoming calls are indicated by a
blinking LED.
If the LED does not light up when you pick up the hand-
set, this probably indicates a fault in the telephone cord
or a wiring error in the connector. Test all the extensions
one after another.
l Is the V.24 cable securely connected between the com-
puter and FRITZ!X PC?
l Is the power adapter securely connected to the AC out-
let and FRITZ!X PC?
l Is the ISDN cable securely inserted in the S
0
sockets of
your NT (Network Terminator) and FRITZ!X PC?
l Are your terminal devices—telephones, modems, fax
machines—correctly connected to FRITZ!X PC?
l Is your terminal device defective? Test it on a different
FRITZ!X PC extension or on a different PBX or analog te-
lephone line.
No external dial tone when you pick up the telephone
handset
Check whether automatic outside dialing is set for the exten-
sion. If not, see if you can obtain a dial tone by dialing “0”.
