Configuring ISDN Dialing Using YaST
ISDN-Controller B1 PCI v4.0 – 9 Installation in Linux 49
5. If a warning message appears, ignore it and confirm the
question with “Yes”. You may be then prompted to re-
install a number of packages. The subsequent configu-
ration of the ISDN connection for KInternet is optional.
6. To skip this configuration, click “Skip” and close the in-
stallation by clicking “Exit”.
This concludes installation in SUSE Linux by means of YaST.
Now you can dial into the Internet over the console using the
dial-in script. Corresponding example scripts are available in
the “etc/ppp/peers/isdn” directory after installation of the
controller.
Configuring ISDN Dialing Using YaST
Proceed as follows to configure an Internet connection over
KInternet:
1. From the “ISDN Service Selection” under “Network
services”, select the command “Add new SyncPPP net-
work interface”.
2. In the “add syncppp interface” dialog you can specify
your telephone number and enter settings for the fire-
wall configuration. Then click “Next” twice.
3. Configure your Internet Service Provider (with Dial on
Demand, for instance) and conclude the configuration
with “Finish”.
For information about configuring the hardware, see the
SUSE documentation.
9.2 Testing the Installation
At the end of the installation, perform a PING test to check
whether the software has been installed correctly. For this
purpose a test connection to the AVM Data Call Center (ADC)
in Berlin is established over the “pppd” module. This simu-
lates dialing in to any ISP (Internet Service Provider) using
PPP sync in accordance with RFC1618 over HDLC. The neces-
sary parameters for the test connection are pre-defined in
the “AVM” dialing script.
