Installation in SUSE Linux with YaST
48 ISDN-Controller B1 PCI v4.0 – 9 Installation in Linux
AVM plans to offer support for further distributions within
the installation file. For the latest information on this, see
the URL
www.avm.de/en
and the AVM Data Call Center (ADC).
9.1 Installation in SUSE Linux with YaST
In versions SUSE Linux 8.1 or higher, a CAPI4Linux driver is
already integrated in the operating system. For older SUSE
systems, information is provided in the documentation on
the installation CD, in the “tar” archive of the corresponding
SUSE version.
Once the AVM ISDN-Controller B1 PCI v4.0 has been physical-
ly installed in your computer, the next step is to install the
ISDN-Controller via YaST. Once installation has been com-
pleted, CAPI 2.0 applications can be started immediately.
The first step we recommend is to use the CAPI Plug-in for
the Generic PPP Stack (pppd) to establish a test connection
to the AVM Data Call Center (ADC).
To install the software, proceed as follows:
1. After login, SUSE’s hardware detection announces
“New hardware found! Would you like to configure the
AVM ISDN-Controller B1 PCI?” Click “Yes”.
If necessary start YaST2 manually (YaST2 Control Cen-
ter) and select “ISDN” in the “Network Devices” menu.
2. System administration rights (root privileges) are neces-
sary to configure the ISDN-Controller. If you are not al-
ready logged in as “root”, i.e. as “Superuser”, then you
must provide the “root” password in the following dialog.
3. In the following YaST2 dialog “ISDN cards configuration”,
select the ISDN-Controller and click “Configure...”.
4. The “ISDN low-level configuration” dialog opens. Enter
your “Areacode” and any “Dialprefix” required to ac-
cess an outside line. Then choose your ISDN protocol
and confirm with “OK”.
