CAPI4Linux
46 ISDN-Controller B1 PCI v4.0 – 9 Installation in Linux
CAPI4Linux
The CAPI 2.0 standard for Linux makes it possible to develop
applications and drivers that can run on any ISDN-Controller
with a compatible CAPI 2.0 driver. The CAPI4Linux software
package is based on this standard.
Information on CAPI can be found in the section “The Appli-
cations Interface CAPI 2.0” on page 61.
CAPI4Linux makes it possible to use the entire range of ISDN
services like Internet access, Remote Access Service,
telephony, Fax G3 and file transfer over a standardized appli-
cations interface CAPI with corresponding applications.
The CAPI4Linux software package consists of:
z a CAPI 2.0 driver
z a CAPI plug-in: an adaptation of the Generic PPP stack
(pppd = Point-to-Point Daemon) for the use of Internet
applications like WWW browsers and FTP clients
z a CAPI 2.0 interface for the popular Fax G3 application
“HylaFAX” (CAPI4HylaFAX)
z
the AVM Software Development Kit (SDK): a tool and re-
sources for developing CAPI 2.0-compatible applications
For more information about the CAPI plug-in for the Generic
PPP stack (pppd), see the “install_active-e.html” file
(SUSE 8.0 or higher) or the “install_active-en.html” file (up
to SUSE 8.0) and the relevant Unix manual page after ex-
tracting the archive. Open this manual page by entering
“man capiplugin” at the system console.
Documentation on the supplementary components of the
CAPI4Linux package like CAPI4HylaFAX and the AVM Soft-
ware Development Kit (SDK) are located as Readme files in
the corresponding “tar” archives on the installation CD.
