22 Alice – 4 How Alice Works
AV-II An AVM standard for audio coding. In this
standard a bandwidth of only 16 kBit/s is
required for transmission of the audio data.
The effective compression performed with
AV-II makes more bandwidth available for
transmission of the video data. AV-II also
offers improved audio quality thanks to the
increase in frequency range from 3 kHz to
7kHz.
CIF Common Intermediate Format; graphic
format with a resolution of 352 x 388 pixels.
QCIF Quarter Common Intermediate Format;
graphic format with a resolution of 176 x 144
pixels.
SQCIF Sub Quarter Common Intermediate Format;
graphic format with a resolution of 128 x 96
pixels.
4CIF 4 Common Intermedia Format; graphic
format of four times the CIF size, with a
resolution of 704 x 576 pixels.
MMX MMX is available in all new Intel processors.
MMX is a processor extension that Alice
uses for intensive computing tasks. Only
MMX-capable computers can perform audio
coding in accordance with AV-II (see above).
