3Working with Alice
You have installed Alice on your computer. Now you can es-
tablish the first connection, download video data from a
server or surprise your friends with pictures from your vaca-
tion. This chapter explains the most important steps for op-
erating Alice. See the Online Help for detailed information
about components, settings and operation of Alice.
If you entered all information about your ISDN line during in-
stallation, all essential settings for using Alice are already
complete. You can proceed to set up an ISDN connection im-
mediately. Should some of the necessary ISDN settings be
missing, the Online Help will tell you how to fill out the indi-
vidual fields.
If you would like to contact the remote site using an IP con-
nection, you must be connected to the Internet or to the LAN
on which the site is located.
3.1 Establishing a Connection to a
Remote Site
The following section describes how to connect to a remote
site with Alice.
Dialing
Alice offers a number of options for establishing a connec-
tion to a remote site.
Open the Phone Book by clicking the button on the left.
Double-click the selected entry. Alice establishes a con-
nection to the saved remote site.
Click in the status window under the screen. Use the
keyboard to enter the number, the IP address, or the
URL of the remote site you would like to contact. Click
the button on the left. Alice establishes a connection to
the specified remote site.
