SMPTE TIME CODE STANDARDS

GENERAL
SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and
Television Engineers) time code is the
standard digital code format and
modulation method relating to input
video and audio magnetic tape recorders
used by the motion picture and
television industries today. The code
is used for timing and control purposes.
SMPTE is a predetermined code whose

format can not be altered by the end
user.

MODULATION METHOD
During modulation, a transition occurs
at the beginning of every bit period.
"One" is represented by a second
