Introduction 1 Introduction Avira AntiVir Server from Avira GmbH protects your computer from viruses, malware, adware and spyware, undesired programs and other dangers. These will be referred to as viruses and malware in this manual. The manual describes the installation and use of the program. On our website, http://www.avira.com, you can download the manual for Avira AntiVir Server as a PDF file, update Avira AntiVir Server or renew your license.

Product information 3 Product information 3.1 Functionality The protection package Avira AntiVir Server consists of the Avira AntiVir Server service and AntiVir Server Console. The Avira AntiVir Server service protects your Windows server against viruses and malware. AntiVir Server Console is used for administration, control and monitoring of the servers to be protected or of the AntiVir services on the servers to be protected. You can access any number of servers via AntiVir Server Console.
Product information AntiVir Server Console ... provides a desktop for AntiVir Server services with which you can control, configure and monitor AntiVir Server services. You install AntiVir Server Console on at least one computer with a network connection to the servers to be protected. AntiVir Server Console can also be installed on the servers to be protected.

Product information 3.4 Licensing You require a license to use Avira AntiVir Server. Activate your license for Avira AntiVir Server with the license file hbedv.key. You can obtain the license file by email from Avira GmbH. The license file contains the license for all products that you have ordered in one order process. You hereby accept the license terms (for details, visit: http://www.avira.com/documents/general/pdf/en/avira_eula_en.pdf). 3.4.
Installation and Uninstallation 4 Installation and Uninstallation 4.1 Installation Before installing Avira AntiVir Server, certain conditions must be met: 3 During installation of the service and of the AntiVir Server Console on the server: 3 Ensure that Windows NT Server, Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003 is installed on the server and started. 3 Ensure that the system requirements are met (see System requirements).
Installation and Uninstallation Carry out installation How to install AntiVir Server: f Start the setup by double-clicking on the installation file that you have downloaded from the Internet or insert the program-CD. The installation assistant opens. f The installation assistant opens. 4.2 Uninstallation Carry out uninstallation via the control panel of the operating system or via the setup of AntiVir Server.
User interface and operation 5 User interface and operation 5.1 User interface The Avira AntiVir Server service that is installed on the servers to be protected is administered via AntiVir Server Console. AntiVir Server Console is a snap-in of the Microsoft Management Console (MMC). You can create any number of servers to be protected on AntiVir Server Console in order to configure and monitor them on AntiVir Server Console.
User interface and operation Operation • Navigate via the console structure in the left-hand window of the MMC. Navigation elements are also displayed as objects in the right-hand detail window of the MMC. Open these objects in the detail window by double-clicking. The AntiVir Server Configuration is located under the node Settings. You can select various configuration sections in the detail window: the window Settings is opened in which you can configure the selected section.

Configuration 6 Configuration 6.1 Configuration The AntiVir Server Configuration is displayed under the node Settings. Under Settings you configure the service Avira AntiVir server on the server to be protected.
Scanning 7 Scanning 7.1 Creating a new scan profile To create a new scan profile and use it to scan for viruses and malware: f Click on Profiles in the AntiVir Server Console. Predefined scan profiles are displayed. f Click the Create new profile symbol. The New profile profile is displayed among the previously existing profiles. f Rename the scan profile, if necessary, by clicking the symbol.
Scanning 7.3 Creating a new scan job To create a job which scans for viruses and malware automatically: f Click on Profiles in the AntiVir Server Console. f Click the Insert new job symbol. The Name and description of the job dialog box is displayed. f Name the job and describe it, if necessary. f Click Next. The Type of job dialog box is displayed. f Select the Scan job. f Click Next. The Time of the job dialog box is displayed.
Scanning 7.4 Reacting to found viruses and malware If correctly configured, Avira AntiVir Server has already automatically carried out all important tasks on your computer: • The infected file is repaired or at least deleted. • If it could not be repaired, access to the file is blocked and, according to the configuration, the file is deleted, moved to quarantine, renamed or the access on the file is denied. • An email or network alerts were sent.
Scanning 7.5.2 Restoring files in quarantine To restore files in quarantine: Danger of data loss and damage to the operating system of the computer! f Use the Restore selected object function only in exceptional cases. f Only restore files which could be repaired by a repeated scan. 3 File re-scanned and repaired. f Click on Quarantine in the AntiVir Server Console. If you would like to restore a file at its original location: f Select the file and click .
Updating 8 Updating 8.1 Updating Avira AntiVir Server The effectiveness of anti-virus software depends entirely on the scanning engine and the virus definitions being up to date. For this reason, regularly download updates for AntiVir Server from our download servers. To carry out regular updates, the component Avira AntiVir Server Updater is integrated in AntiVir Server.
Updating 8.2 Updating Avira AntiVir Server automatically You can create a job using the AntiVir Scheduler which updates the Avira AntiVir Server automatically. Note that an Internet or Intranet connection has to be available. f Click on Scheduler in the AntiVir Server Console. f Click the Insert new job with the assistant symbol. The Name and description of the job dialog box is displayed. f Name the job and describe it, if necessary. f Click Next. The Type of job dialog box is displayed.
Service 9 Service 9.1 First Aid If you have general problems with the program or you cannot clean your system after an infection: f Please check AntiVir functions with the checklist below. 9.1.1 Checking System Configuration f Check if Avira AntiVir Server service is active. You can see this in the Services configuration window (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services) at Avira AntiVir Server service: – the Startup type must be Automatic.
