AVIOS MIG-17 FRESCO
The Russian Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG-17 (Nato reporting name "Fresco") was a high subsonic (.93 Mach)
fighter jet produced in the USSR from 1952. It was operated by numerous air forces in many variants and was
an advanced development of the very succesful MIG-15 that was used in the Korean war. The major
advancement over the MIG-15 was the entirely new thinner and more swept wing and tailplane which enabled
it to reach speeds of nearly Mach 1
The MIG-17 was designed to intercept straight and level flying bombers, not for general air to air combat
(dogfighting). it was very effective against the slower, heavily loaded US fighter bombers that were being used
in the Vietnam war.
The Avios MIG-17 Fresco captures the looks, style and rakish lines of the full size jet beautifully. The color
scheme Avios has used is that for the civilian MIG-17's flown in the United States by the "Black Diamond"
Display Team and they paint their aircraft in an artic camouflage. The MIG-17 is made of tough, high
compression EPO and is supplied ready painted but you are required to apply the waterslide decals yourself.
The MIG-17 boasts many features, it has a pre-installed 90mm 12 bladed fan unit with 3541/1550KV
brushless outrunner motor, 100A ESC with 5A UBEC, 1 pre-installed metal geared digital servo, 11 pre-
installed analog servos, aluminum retract system, split flaps, working air-brakes at the rear of the fuselage
and LED lighting.
The Avios MIG-17 Fresco is the same quality that you have come to expect from the Avios brand and is also
very straightforward to build due to the low parts count.
