The color of the Flight Director steering command bars reflect the
status of the autopilot, as follows:
● When the autopilot is in AP mode, the Flight Director steering
command bars are magenta. In AP mode, the autopilot steers the
airplane toward the command bars until the Aircraft Reference
Symbol (ARS) is tucked into the steering command bars.
● When the autopilot is in FD mode, the Flight Director steering
command bars are green. In FD mode, the command bars show
you where to steer, but you need to guide the aircraft so that the
ARS is tucked into the steering command bars.
