Chapter 3: eMix Application 21
Cabling
This category handles MADI cable connections for the ML530s.
Mic-Line Interface Patching
For mic inputs and analog inputs not at +4 dB, the Avid Modular I/O and the ML530 provide preamps with gain, phantom power,
high-pass filter, and hiZ/loZ switching (ML530 only). The Modular I/O can provide up to 56 preamp channels per MADI port,
while the ML530 provides 24 channels. The ML530 analog outputs are connected to an AM713 Analog-to-MADI converter which
then connects to one of the MADI inputs.
For each rack of Modular I/O remote preamps, PatchNet must know which MADI input the rack is connected to so its mic preamp
parameters appear on the corresponding channel knobset.
For each ML530, PatchNet must know which MADI input the AM713 is connected to so the mic preamp parameters appear on
the corresponding input channel knobset.
Note how each Mic-Line Interface is connected (see the following example).
To route the MADI output from the analog-to-MADI converters of two ML530 Mic-Line interfaces to the inputs of Frame1-1 and
Frame1-2:
1 Select Cabling in PatchNet.
2 Select the MADI Out Ports sub-category.
The list shows 7 Mic-Line Interfaces but only configure those wired to the Frame (i.e., Mic1 and Mic2).
3 Drag through the cells to the right of Mic1 and Mic2.
The cells highlight green and the names appear in the Sources column of the Selected: area.
4 Select the MADI In Ports sub-category.
5 Drag through the cells to the right of the two Frame 1 inputs (Frame1-1 and Frame1-2).
The cells highlight green and the names appear in the Destinations column of the Selected: area.
6 Click the Patch button to make the patch.
PatchNet now knows how the two Mic-Line interfaces are connected so the proper input parameters appear at the top of the
channels they are connected to.
Because Frame1-1 and Frame1-2 have been designated as MADI connections to the Mic-Line interfaces, clicking on the Frame1-1
and Frame1-2 sub-categories in Sources show Device Patch in the first 24 cells and will not allow selection unless they are un-
patched.
