Chapter 14: CM403 Film/Post Module (S5 Only) 173
Cycle
Selecting a channel using the Wave key assigns it to the left joystick. Selecting a second channel within 2.5 s assigns it to the right
joystick.
Direct Assign
Hold a channel’s Wave key down and select Pan To: to assign that channel to the left joystick. Hold the Wave key down and select
the Pan knobset key to assign the channel to the right joystick.
402 Cycle
This assigns channels to the joystick using the channel select keys on the CM402T’s channel select panel. Selecting a channel as-
signs it to the left joystick. Selecting a second channel within 2.5 s assigns it to the right joystick.
Hybrid Joysticks
Assign a hybrid channel to the joystick with the same key strokes used to assign a channel to a strip (see page 69).
Layouts
Joystick assignments can be stored/recalled with Layouts and can also be protected from Layouts using Strip Lock in the Strip Con-
fig Panel (see page 67).
Setting a Joystick’s Automation Mode
The automation mode for pan and surround parameters controlled by the joystick are set the same as a standard strip:
Hold down the joystick’s Wave key and press its Select/Punch key repeatedly to cycle through the automation modes (Isolate, Write
Absolute, Read).
The automation mode can also be set by pressing the desired automation mode key on the CM401T (i.e., Write Abs), which puts
the console into a select mode. Then press the joystick’s Select/Punch key.
Punching In a Joystick
Punch the joystick into record/write by pressing its Select/Punch key, or simply move the joystick (it is always touch-sensitive)
to automatically begin recording.
Linking
See Chapter 11, “Linking (S5P Only)” to learn how to control channels from a joystick panner.
