Word Clock Many professional digital audio
products—including open-reel multitrack tape
recorders, digital mixing consoles, and digital
recorders—have Word Clock (1x sample rate)
connectors.
Word Clock allows Word Clock-compatible de-
vices to send or receive external clock informa-
tion that controls the sample rate, which in turn
(where applicable) controls the play and record
speed.
zero crossing Point at which a wave’s amplitude
crosses the center line of the waveform display.
Typically, a good spot to edit a sound file is at
zero crossings, to avoid unwanted artifacts.
