Before You Install the Editing Application
Read through the following procedures prior to installing the editing application.
(Windows Only) Missing Video Plug-ins
If you are updating from Avid Media Composer 3.x, Symphony 3.x, or NewsCutter 7.x to
Avid Media Composer v4.0.x, Symphony v4.0.x or NewsCutter v8.0.x, you must perform
the following to fix the AVX Plug-ins path. If you do not perform this procedure, various
video effects, such as Illusion FX, Avid PanZoom, RGB Keyer, may not show up in the
Effects Palette. The first procedure below provides the steps to be performed if you read this
before installing the editing application. In the event that you did not read this prior to
installing the editing application, follow the second set of steps.
To fix the path prior to upgrading to the v4.0.2 or v8.0.2 the editing application:
1. Log on as Administrator.
2. Select Start > Run.
3. Type
Regedit
to enter the Registry Editor application.
4. Do one of the following depending on your OS:
t (Windows Vista 64) Navigate to the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Avid Technology\AVX
Plug-ins
Update the Directory entry to add a “\” after Avid. For example, C:\Program Files
(x86)\Avid to C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\
t (Windows XP 32) Navigate to the following:
HKLM\Software\Avid Technology\AVX Plug-ins
Update the Directory entry to add a “\” after Avid. For example, C:\Program
Files\Avid to C:\Program Files\Avid\
To fix the path after upgrading the v4.0.2 or v8.0.2 editing application:
1. Log on as Administrator.
2. Do one of the following depending on your OS:
(Windows Vista 64) Copy the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\AvidAVX_Plug-Ins to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Avid\AVX_Plug-Ins
(Windows XP 32) Copy the contents of C:\Program Files\AvidAVX_Plug-Ins to
C:\Program Files\Avid\AVX_Plug-Ins
