Lotus Notes Clients
The information on this (and linked pages) provide information about Notes Clients and their deployment.
Specifically, this page provides an overview of the various Notes Clients.
Before deploying the Notes client in your environment, it is important to understand the different types of
clients available, validate the recommended requirements based on the operating system used in your
environment, and to be able to compare the features and capabilities of each client. This will help you
determine which client is the best choice for your specific environment.
First, let review the different client types available for Lotus Notes 8.5.
Notes Standard Client
The Standard Client is the full rich client running on top of the Eclipse framework. This client provides all
the new features, functionalities, and capabilities advertised on the IBM Lotus website. This is the client that
requires the most resources out of a workstation.
Notes Basic Client
The Basic Client provides the same user experience as the Notes 6.5.x and 7.x Client, running on top of a
C++ / C# framework. It can run Notes applications just like before, but it does not provide any of the new
capabilities of the Notes Standard client. If you currently have Notes 7.x clients or prior deployed in your
environment, it is highly probable that you should be able to run this client on your existing workstations.
iNotes Client
The iNotes Client is the web-based equivalent of the Notes Basic Client. It provides all the mail, calendaring
and scheduling capabilities available on the Basic Client. You only need a browser on your workstation to
use this client. You can use this client on any workstation in your environment, if you meet the minimum
browser requirements.
You can run the iNotes Client in three modes: Full, Lite and Ultralite.
For more details on the iNotes Client features and browser requirements, consult the iNotes section of this
wiki, and

Base.
Domino Administration Client
The Domino Administration client is used mainly by the administrators of the Notes and Domino
environment. This client is used to perform day-to-day administrative tasks and to manage the Domino
servers.
This client is similar to the Notes Basic client as it runs on a C++ / C# framework just like previous releases,
and it's only available on Microsoft Windows. This client is packaged with the Notes client and the Domino
Designer client.
For more information on the new Domino 8.5 administration features, check the Administration section of
this wiki. For more details about the Domino Administration client, consult the Domino and Notes Infocenter.
