• Post-Exception - The ability to find suspicious
transactions using a DVR or software application
after they occur. Allows loss prevention staff to focus
on only those transactions that meet specific criteria.
Drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to
review video.
• Pre-Exception - The ability to pre-define an excep-
tion and generate on-screen flags or hard alarms for
DVR control when they occur. Drastically reduces the
amount of time it takes to review video.
• Remote Viewer - Software application that allows
user to access DVR via LAN, WAN. Some viewing
software allows for full functional control or DVR.
• Router - a device that forwards data packets to the
appropriate parts of a computer network.
• RS-232 - a commonly used computer serial inter-
face.
• RS-485 - An OSI model physical layer electrical
specification of a two-wire half-duplex, multipoint se-
rial connection
• Serial Communications - Serial communications
are simply a series of voltage or current changes
which are translated into the binary equivalents of 1
or 0s.
• Switcher - a device that routes video and or audio
signals to different sources.
• Text Inserter - A device that superimposes text on
a video source.
• Text search - see Post-Exception
• Till - a cash register or drawer for money in a store,
bank, or restaurant.
• Titler - a type of text inserter that can superimpose a
name or description on a video source.
• Transformer - an electric device that changes volt-
age in direct proportion to currents and inverse to the
radio of the number of turns of primary and secondary
windings.
• TTL - a widely used technology for making inte-
grated circuits.
• Twisted Pair - a cable composed of two small,
insulated conductors twisted together. Since both
wires have nearly equal exposure to any interference,
unwanted noise is substantially reduced.
• UTP - Unshielded Twisted Pair
• Video Motion Detection - a system that detects mo-
tion in the video signal and generates a corresponding
alarm. This con be accomplished by some cameras,
multiplexers, and DVRs. This is feature maximizes
recording space by only recording while motion is
detected.
