The VSI-Pro will cut losses created by staff, theft, and “Sweet - Hearting” at the cash

Sweet Hearting

This requires an accomplice or “sweet heart” who loads up expensive items for check out. The clerk then rings up the items but

charges a lower price than marked. This type of loss shows up later as shrinkage.

Voids

These can be used after the customer has left and the same transaction has been rendered void by the clerk. The money is still in the

No Sales

These are the most common suspect sale. There are legitimate uses like making changes or correcting mistakes. A Cashier can easily

steal from the cash register by entering a “NO SALE” and then either taking the money from the cash register drawer or receiving

money for an item only to remove the accumulated money before the end of their shift. Since “NO SALE” was entered, there is no

record of the transaction and the stolen money will not be missed.

Returns/Refunds

These are usually questionable when no exchange is made and cash is being paid out. Items are pulled from stock and fictitious

refunds are given to friends and relatives, or the clerk themselves. In other instances, merchandise that has been stolen in large quan-

tities is returned for cash or store credit.

Other Questionable Transactions

Pay-Out is keyed as if to pay a vendor but the cashier or a sweet heart gets the money instead. Discount or coupon is keyed for friends

to give a reduced price when special pricing should not be given.
