Mantel Requirements
• Use the table below to determine the maximum mantel depth allowed. The mantel depth
(measured from the face of the fireplace) must fall in the shaded portion of the table.
• Any facing material that protrudes more than 3/4” from the face of the fireplace is considered a
mantel and must meet the mantel requirements.

Examples: • If you wish to have an 8” deep mantel, it must be at least 8” above the fireplace face (44-3/4” above the base).
• If you wish to have a mantel 6” above the fireplace face, it must be no deeper than 6”.

Mantel (combustilbe or non-combustible)
Combustible mantel columns (legs) that
protrude more than 3/4” from the glass
frame must meet the sidewall clearance (1”).
If they protrude 3/4” or less, they may be
placed directly to the side (but not in front) of
the fireplace.
Non-combustible mantel columns do not
have a minimum clearance.
