2.6AUTODESKAPPROVEDPARAMETERUSAGE

Familiescontainparametersthatnotonlycreatethefamilygeometry,butidentifyorclassifytheelementsthatare

createdbythefamily.Allfamilieshavepredefinedparametersthatyouassignvaluesordatato,butyoucanadd

parametersthatarenotpredefinedinRevitsoftware(thatarenotsystemparameters).

IMPORTANT:Ifyouwanttodisplaythenamesandvaluesofcustomparametersinaschedule,theymustbe

definedassharedparametersinatextfilethatisindependentoffamilyandprojectfiles.

REQUIREMENT:Topromoteconsistencyinmodelcontent(particularlyformanufacturercontentthatissharedon

AutodeskSeek),useparametersastheyareexplicitlydefined(includingtheGUID)intheapprovedshared

parametersfile.Ifarequiredparameterisnotinthefile,addittoyourcontentasnecessary.Itisalso

recommendedtoincludethesharedparameterfilecontainingtheadditionalparameterswithyourcontent

package.Whencreatingcustomparameters,referto2.7ParameterNamingConventions.

Refertothemastersharedparametersfile(RevitMasterSharedParameters.txt)forthelistofAutodesk‐approved

sharedparameters.Thisfilecontainsmostofthesharedparametersthatyouwillneedtoaddtoyourfamilies.A

spreadsheet(RevitMasterParameterList.xls)thatliststheseparametersbyfamilycategory,alongwithapplicable

predefinedsystemparametersisalsoavailableforyourreference.
