SIMPLIFYINGTHEGEOMETRICREPRESENTATION
AsthetypicalDigitalPrototypeismodeledaround
manufacturinglevelofdetail,itissuggestedthata
modelsimplificationworkflowbeusedtodramatically
simplifyandreducethelevelofdetailthatisprovided
toAECCustomers.
Withoutmodelsimplification,thehighlevelofdetail
thatcanbepresentinaDigitalPrototypewillhavean
adverseimpactonmodelperformanceintheAEC
application.Userscancontrolthelevelof
simplification,rangingfromremovalofkeyinternal
detailstoacomplete“shrinkwrap”thatrepresents
onlytheouterenvelopeoftheproductdesign.The
“shrinkwrap”processenablesthecreationofa
simplifiedgeometricrepresentationofthebuilding
productwhileretainingtheinformationthatisdesiredbyarchitectsandengineers.Theprocesscanalsohelp
protecttheIntellectualpropertythatmanufacturersdonotwishtodisclosetodownstreamcustomers,byallowing
forselectivedeterminationoffeaturesandgeometrytobeincludedorexcludedduringtheprocess.
