The field creates turbulence in the nParticle smoke as it rises.
However, to create the effect of the smoke curling and dissipating, you
need to adjust the field and nParticle attributes further. For example, the
emitted nParticles have too much velocity for the field to influence their
behavior. You will make these adjustments in the next section.
Adjusting nParticle velocity
When using Maya Fields with emitted nParticles, some particles move too
quickly through the field to produce the desired effect. You can control how
much of an nParticle object's velocity is retained from frame to frame by
adjusting the Conserve attribute. You can further control the velocity of the
particles as they enter the Volume Axis field by increasing the nParticle objects
Drag. Drag adds friction between the air and nParticles, which slows the
particles down.
To adjust nParticle velocity for the field
1 In the Outliner, select nParticle_Smoke.
2 Open the Attribute Editor by clicking
.
3 In the Dynamic Properties section of the nParticle_SmokeShape Attribute
Editor, set Conserve to 0.05 and Drag to 0.149.
