Use a Hyperlink to Start a New Drawing
When you activate a hyperlink that points to an AutoCAD drawing template
(DWT) file, AutoCAD creates a new drawing file based on the template rather
than opening the actual template file.
This provides a convenient mechanism for creating a set of standardized
drawing templates that you can share with others. Because the hyperlinked
template files open a new AutoCAD drawing, there is no risk of others
accidentally overwriting the original template.
To open an AutoCAD drawing template (DWT) file associated with a
hyperlink
1 In the drawing area, select a graphical object with an attached hyperlink
to a DWT file.
2 Right-click anywhere in the AutoCAD drawing area, and then choose
Hyperlink Open.
The Hyperlink Open shortcut menu option is followed either by the
hyperlink description (if one is specified) or the full URL to the referenced
file.
A new AutoCAD drawing opens based on the hyperlinked DWT file.
Note If you have turned off display of the hyperlink cursor in the Options
dialog box, User Preferences tab, Hyperlink area, the Hyperlink shortcut menu
becomes unavailable. To restore the Hyperlink shortcut menu, turn the Display
Hyperlink Cursors option back on.
Convert Previously Attached URLs to Hyperlinks
URLs that were attached in previous releases are converted to AutoCAD LT
2004 hyperlinks when you save the drawing in AutoCAD LT 2004 format.
If you saved an AutoCAD drawing in AutoCAD Release 14 format, any hyper-
links in the drawing were converted to AutoCAD Release 14 URLs. Hyperlink
descriptions are not available in AutoCAD Release 14, but if you subse-
quently save the drawing in AutoCAD 2000 or later format, the hyperlink
descriptions are restored.
