672 | Chapter 23 Reference Other Drawing Files (Xrefs)
After the balloon message disappears, an exclamation point is added to the
Xref icon. If you click the balloon message or the Xref icon, the Xref Manager
is displayed.
By default, AutoCAD checks for changed xrefs every five minutes. You can
change the number of minutes between checks by setting the
XNOTIFYTIME
system registry variable using (setenv "XNOTIFYTIME" "n") where n is a num-
ber of minutes between 1 and 10080 (seven days).
Note When changing the value of XNOTIFYTIME, you must enter XNOTIFY-
TIME with the capitalization shown.
Update Xrefs with Demand Loading Turned On
If demand loading is on when you load the xref, the referenced drawing, or
a referenced drawing copy, remains open during the current session. When
you reload a demand loaded xref, if the
XLOADCTL system variable is set to
1, no one else can access the referenced drawing. If
XLOADCTL is set to 2,
AutoCAD loads a temporary copy of the most recently saved version of the
referenced file. For information about demand loading, see “Increase Perfor-
mance with Large Xrefs” on page 694.
To update an attached xref
1 From the Insert menu, choose Xref Manager.
2 In the Xref Manager, select the reference name that you want to reload.
3 Select Reload and choose OK.
Note If the drawing you selected has been changed since you opened your
drawing, the xref is reloaded.
