184 | Chapter 14 Control the Properties of Objects
Note If you use wild-card characters in named object names, precede the char-
acter with a reverse quote (`) so AutoCAD does not interpret the character as a
wild-card character.
To filter the display of layer names
1 On the Layers toolbar, click the Layer Properties Manager button.
2 In the Layer Properties Manager under Named Layer Filters, click the [...]
button.
3 In the Named Layer Filters dialog box, set the layer filters you want to
apply.
Select the characteristics for the layers that you want listed in the Layer
Properties Manager. Notice that the default setting for Layer Names,
Colors, and Linetypes is an asterisk (*), a wild-card string. For example, the
wild-card string 1* specifies all layer names beginning with the number 1.
4 Choose OK to exit each dialog box.
Only the layers that pass the filter restrictions you specified are displayed
in the Layer Properties Manager.

To sort the lists displayed in the Layer Properties Manager
1 From the Format menu, choose Layer.
2 Click any column heading.
3 Click a second time to reverse the sorting order.
Save and Restore Layer Settings
You can save the current layer settings in a drawing and restore them later.
Saving layer settings can save you time if you need to return to specified
settings for all layers during different stages in completing a drawing or for
plotting. This is especially convenient for drawings that have a large number
of layers.
Save Layer Settings
Layer settings include layer states and layer properties. Layer states include
whether or not a layer is turned on, frozen, locked, plotted, and automati-
cally frozen in new viewports. Layer properties include color, linetype, line-
weight, and plot style. You can choose which layer states and layer properties
that you want to save. For example, you can choose to save only the Frozen/
