Filter and Sort the List of Layers
You can control which layer names are listed in the Layer Properties Manager
and sort them by name or by property, such as color or visibility.
Sometimes you may want only certain layers to be listed in the Layer Proper-
ties Manager. Use layer filters to limit the layer names listed. You can filter
layer names based on
■ Whether layers are set to be plotted
■ Layer names, colors, linetypes, lineweights, and plot styles
■ Whether layers are turned on or off
■ Whether layers are frozen or thawed in the current viewport
■ Whether layers are locked or unlocked
You can filter layers by using wild-card searches. For example, if you want to
display only layers that start with the word mech, you can enter mech* in the
Layer Name list and then press
ENTER. You can use wild-card characters to
rename groups of named objects. For example, to rename the group of layers
STAIR$LEVEL-1, STAIR$LEVEL-2, STAIR$LEVEL-3 to S_LEVEL-1, S_LEVEL-2, S_LEVEL-
3
, enter stair$* under Old Name and s_* under Rename To. See the table at
the end of this topic.
You can also filter layers inversely, which is useful for viewing layers contain-
ing all but one property. For example, if all the site plan information for a
drawing is contained in multiple layers that include the word site as a part of
the layer names, you can easily display all information except site plan
information by entering *site* as an invert filter.
The Named Layer Filters list displays default filters and any named filters that
you create and save in the current drawing. Three default filters are displayed
in the Named Layer Filters list:
■ Show All Layers. Displays all the layers in the current drawing.
■ Show All Used Layers. Displays all the layers on which objects in the cur-
rent drawing are drawn.
