Catalog Assignment
Assign catalog information to components
Vendor catalog parts lookup and assignment is crucial to enabling AutoCAD
Electrical to create various detailed BOM reports automatically. It is also a key
step in the workflow between control schematic wiring diagrams and derived
physical panel layouts. Catalog parts lookup is through a multitable Microsoft
Access database file (default_cat.mdb) shipped with AutoCAD Electrical. It is
populated with some commonly used component part numbers and
descriptions from some of the major electrical controls vendors. The database
content is found at:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\My
Documents\Acade {version}\AeData\Catalogs\
Windows Vista, Windows 7: C:\Users\{username}\Documents\Acade
{version}\AeData\Catalogs\
Catalog information is carried on a parent or stand-alone component. You
can define exactly where AutoCAD Electrical looks for this catalog information,
allowing great flexibility in how you keep your catalog information. There
are some ways to assign your catalog information to a component:
Use the Component Insert/Edit dialog box
The AutoCAD Electrical Insert/Edit dialog box appears when you insert a new
component or edit one. Click Lookup to view the catalog database file of the
component. It is where you can search the database for a specific catalog item
to assign to the selected component.
