Using S tandard View Navigation
To navigate through your scene, use the view
navigation buttons located at the lower-right
corner of the program window. All view types,
except Camera and Light views, use a standard set
of view navigation buttons.
B utton Opera tion
Clicking standard view navigation buttons
produces one of two results:
• Executes t he command and returns to your
previous action.
• Activates a view navigation mode.
Youcantellthatyouareinamodebecausethe
button remains selected and is highlighted. This
mode remains active until you rig ht-click or
choose another command.
While in a navigation mode, you can activate other
view ports of t he same t ype, without exiting the
mode, by clicking in any v iewport. See Viewport
Controls (page 3–729).
Undoing Sta ndar d
View N av iga tion Commands
Use the Undo View Change and Redo View Change
commands (page 1–36) on the Views menu to
reset standard view navigation commands without
affecting other v iewports or the geometry in your
scene. These commands are also found in the
menu displayed when you right-click a viewport
label.
Views menu > Undo and Views menu > Redo
are separate from Undo and Redo on the Edit
menu or the toolbar. 3ds Max maintains separate
U ndo/Redo buffers for scene editing and for each
viewport.
The Vie w Undo/Redo buffer stores your last 20
view navigation commands for each viewport.
You can step back through the Undo View/Redo
Viewbufferuntilyouhaveundoneallofthestored
view-navigation commands.

When you click one of the view navigation buttons,
you can change these basic view properties:
V iew magnification—Controls zooming in
and out.
View position—Controls panning in any
direction.
View rotation—Controls rotating in any
direction
Zooming a Vi ew
Click Zoom (page 3–739) or Zoom All
(page 3–740) and drag in a viewpor t to change the
view magnification. Zoom changes only the active
view, while Zoom All simultaneously changes all
non-camer a views.

click Field of View (FOV) (page 3–741).Theeffect
