New Lay er—Click to create a new VertexPaint
layer. Clicking new layer displays a New Layer
dialog.
Delete Layer Click to delete the current
Ver texPaint layer. This removes the modifier from
the stack.
Condense to single layer—Click to condense
the layers into a single layer.
Condensing layers is a two-part operation: first
3ds Max adds a new VertexPaint modifier to the
stack,combiningcolorsfrompreviousVertexPaint
layers according to the settings described above.
Second, it deletes the previous VertexPaint
modifiers.
If Preser ve Layer has been turned on for a
particular VertexPaint layer, then its colors are
“baked” into the new VertexPaint modifier, but the
preser ved layer isn’t deleted from the stack.

Select an object. > Modify panel > Modifier List >
VertexPaint > VertexPaint Paintbox > Click the Adjust
Color button.
Select an object. > Modifiers menu > Mesh Editing >
Vertex Paint > VertexPaint Paintbox > Click the Adjust
Color button.
Select an object. > Utilities panel > More > Assign Vertex
Colors > Click Assign to Selected > Modify panel >
Modifier List > VertexPaint > VertexPaint Paintbox > Click
the Adjust Color button.
The Adjust Color dialog lets you adjust the color
of currently selected vertices. If there is no active
vertex sub-object selection, it affects all vertices
equally.
Interf ace
HSV(The default.) When chosen, the first
three sliders are labeled HSV, and adjust the
colors’ hue, saturation, and value.
RGB—When cho sen, t he first three sliders a re
labeled RGB, and adjust the colors red, blue,
and g reen components.

Prev iew—When on, vertex color adjustments
are previewed interactively in shaded viewpor ts
(provided that on the Paintbox, Vertex Color
Display - Unshaded or Vertex Color Display -
Shaded is active). Default=on.
Contrast slider—L ets you adjust the contrast of the
vertex colors.

Histogra m—Graphically shows the distribution of
colors in the vertex selection, as well as the current
shadow, gamma, and highlight input levels.
