Procedure
To a ccess Hide options, do one of the fol lowing:
•Openthe
Layer Manager (page 3–706)

In the Layer Manager, you can easily hide
groups of objects or layers.
• Open the Display panel. Click Hide, if
necessary, to expand the rollout.
•ChooseToolsmenu>DisplayFloater.This
modeless dialog has the same options as the
Hide rollout. I t also contains Freeze options.
• Access the
Object Propert ies dialog (page
1–111)
from either the right-click (quad) menu
or the Edit menu. Turn on Hide and/or Freeze
If the button is unavailable because By Layer
isturnedon,clickByLayertochangeittoBy
Object.
• Right-click in the active v iewport and choose a
Hide or Unhide command from the quad menu
>Displayquadrant.
Hiding a nd Unhi ding Obj ects by
Categ ory
You can hide objects by category, the basic types
of objects. F or example, you can hide all lights
in your scene at one time, or all shapes, or any
combination of categories. By hiding all categories,
your scene appears empty. Hidden objects, while
not displayed, continue to exist as part of the
geometry of your scene but cannot b e selected.

Hiding Geometry and Particle Systems
Geometry and particle systems have sep ar ate
categories, even though particle systems are also
geometry.
• Selecting Geometry hides all geometry in the
scene, including particle systems. The option
for particle systems becomes una vailable.
• Selecting Particle Systems hides only these
objects, leaving the other geometry unaffected.
Effects of Hiding by Categor y
• If you create an object in a category that is
hidden, the category selection is cleared and
the objects in that categor y are un hidden .
