Pres er ve UVs S etti ngs—Opens the
Preserve Map
Channels dialog (page 1–1076)
,whichletsyou
specify the vertex color channels and/or texture
channels (map channels) to preserve. By default,
all vertex color channels are off (not preserved),
andalltexturechannelsareon(preserved).
Cr e ate Lets you add ver tices to a single selected
poly object. Af ter selecting the object and clicking
Create, click anywhere in space to add free-floating
(isolated) vertices to the object. The new vertices
are placed on the active construction plane unless
object snapping is on. For example, with face
snapping on, you can create vertices on object
faces.
CollapseCollapsesgroupsofcontiguousselected
vertices by welding them into a single vertex at the
selection center.
Attach—Lets you attach another object in the scene
to the selected Edit P oly object. Click the object
you want to attach to the cur rently selected Edit
Poly object.
You can attach any ty p e of geometry object,
including splines and patch objects. Attaching a
non-mesh object converts it to Edit Poly format.
For f ur ther details, see
Attach
.
Attach Li st—Lets you attach other objects in
thescenetotheselectedEditPolyobject.Click
to display the Attach List dialog, where you c an
choose, by name, multiple objects to attach.
Detach—Detaches the selected vertices and al l
attached polygons f rom the Edit Poly object,
creating a separate object or element. The default
settings are those most recently set in the Detach
dialog, available from the Detach Settings button
(see following).
Detached vertices leave a hole in the original object
when you move them to a new position, unless you
use the Deta ch As Clone option.
Detach Settings—Opens the
Detach dialog
(page 1–670)

object.
Note: Any Detach settings you change are
automatically saved as program defaults.

mesh along a plane (Slice) or in a specific area
(Cut).
Slice Pla neCreates a gizmo for a slice plane that
you can position and rotate to specify w here to
slice. In Model mode, clicking Slice Plane enables
the Slice and Reset Plane buttons. In Animate
mode, Slice Plane is available only after clicking
Slice, and you can animate the slice plane.
As you transform the slice plane, you see a preview
of where the slice w ill occur in the mesh object. To
perform the slice, click the Slice button.
Split—When on, the Slice and Cut operations
create double sets of ver tices at the points where
the edges are divided. This lets you move one side
of the slice or cut away from the other side.
Slice—Performs the slice operation at the location
of the slice plane. In Model mode, Slice is available
only when Slice Plane is on. In Animate mode, you
