The v iewport returns to the saved view.
Ifyourenotsurewhetheraviewporthasa
saved view, check the Views menu. Restore
Active View is unavailable unless a view is saved
in the active viewport.
Viewport Background

Keyboard > ALT+B
This command displays the
Viewport Background
dialog (page 1–38)
, which controls the display
ofthebackgroundimageintheactiveviewport.
Each viewport can display a different backgro und.
You can use this for mo deling, by placing f ront,
top or side view sketches in the corresponding
view ports. Or use Viewport background to match
3D elements with digitized cam era footage.

The Viewport Background dialog controls display
of an image or animation as the background for
oneorallviewports,forexampleforalignment
or
rotoscoping (page 3–1097)
. You can assign
different background images to different
viewports.
Yo u s e l e c t t h e i m a g e o r a n i m a t i o n t o d i s p l a y i n
the active viewport, set the frame synchronization
between the animated image file and the current
scene, and turn the assig ned image on and off.
These changes
do not affect
the rendered scene.
Toplaceanimageinthebackgroundofthe
rendered scene, use the Environment And Effects
dialog >
Environment panel (page 3–267)
,
accessed from the Rendering menu.
Note: When safe frames are displayed in a view port,
and the Aspect Ratio options are set to either
Match Viewport or Match Rendering Output, the
assigned viewport background image is confined
to the Live area of the safe frames and will correctly
match the rendered background bitmap.
Tip: If you are using a viewport driver with
hardware acceleration (OpenGL or Direct3D),
the viewport backg round might not appear. If
this happens, choose Customize > Preferences.

Size group and turn on Match Bitmap Size As
Closely As Possible (

setting). Click OK in both dialogs to accept your
change.

Procedures
To assign an image to one or all viewports:
1.
Act ivate a viewport where you want the
background image.
2. Choose Views menu > Viewport Background
to display the Viewport Background dialog.
3. In the Background Source group, click Files to
display the Select Background Image dialog.
4. Select the image or animation you want to use.
5. If you want to display the image in all viewports,
click All Views in the Apply Source And Display
To g r ou p.
6. Click OK.
