Stretch—Quad menus open by expanding one
quadrant at a time, in a clockwise manner.
They close similarly; contracting one quadrant
atatime,inacounterclockwisemanner.
FadeQuad menus open by fading in from
transparent to opaque, and close by fading out
from opaque to t r ansparent.
Steps—The number of f rames used to complete
the animated display of the quad menu.
As this value becomes larger, the transition (sma ll
to large, transparent to opaque, etc.) becomes
more gradual.
Paus e—The t ime between frames during the
animated display of the quad menu.
As this value becomes larger, the animated display
of the quad menu slows down.

Right-click any button on a custom toolbar. > Edit Button
Appearance
Usethisdialogtochangetheappearanceofthe
selected button. You can substitute a different icon
forthebutton,orchangetoatextbuttoninstead.
You can also customize the tooltip.
Custom Icons
Tomakeacustomicons,youneedaseriesoffour
files, each beginning with the same prefix which
designatestheicongroup. Youcancreatethese
images in any paint program.
A 24x24 im age for use w hen large icons are
displayed. Suffix:
_24i.bmp
.
A 24x24 g r ayscale image showing the
transparency of the 24x24 image, with black
pixels indicating see-through areas where the
gray button background w ill show through.
Suffix:
_24a.bmp
.
A 16x15 image for use w hen small icons are
displayed. Suffix:
_16i.bmp
.

Each file can contain more than one icon, but if
so, the icons must be arranged in series one after
the other. For example, if you want three icons to
appear, the file that ends in
_24i.bmp
would be 72
pixels wide and 24 pixels high, and contain the
three icons in series with no sp ace between them.
After you create the icon files, copy them to the
UI/icons
folder and restart 3ds Max. This will
enable the software to find and display the group
when you access the Edit Button Ap pearance
dialog.
Tip: Look at some of the existing
.bmp
files in the
UI/icons
folder as a guide to arranging c ustom
icons in your
.bmp
files.
Interfa ce
Tool tip—You can add your own tooltips to the
buttons. This is the tooltip that displays when the
mouse is over the t ool button. You can edit this to
describe the tool.
Tex t Button—Lets you assign text to the button.
Youcanenterwhatevertextyoulikeforthebutton.
Image Button—Lets you assign an image (icon) to
thebutton.Youcanuseanypredefinediconthat
you want by selecting it from the display on the
right.
