Command Panel 799
To pan a light:
1.
ActivateaCameraorLightviewport.
2. Click Pan Light.
The button highlights when it is on.
3. Drag to rotate the view about the camera or
light.
Dragging rotates the view freely using the
worldXandYaxes.
Press SHIFT and drag horizontally to lock
view rotation about the world Y axis. This
produces a horizontal pan.
Press SHIFT and drag vertically to lock
rotation about the world X axis. This
produces a vertical pan.
4. Press ESC or right-click to t urn off the button.
Topanwiththemiddlemousebutton:
Hold down the middle mouse button and drag.
Pan mode is automatically switched on.
Inter face
Orbit Li ght—Rotatesthelightaboutitstarget.
Freelightsusetheinvisibletarget,settothetarget
distance specified in the Modify panel > Spotlight
Parameters or Directional Parameters rollout.
Pan L i gh t—For a target light, rotates the target
about t he light. For a free light, rotates the light
about its local axes.
Command Panels
The command panel comprises six user-interface
panels that give you access to most of the modeling
featuresof3dsMax,aswellassomeanimation
features, display choices, and miscellaneous
utilities. Only one p anel is visible at a time. To
display a different panel, you click its tab at the top
of the command panel.
Thesearethesixpanels:
Create panel (page 3–800)
Contains controls for creating objects:
geometry, cameras, lights, and so on.
Modif y panel (page 3–801)
Contains controls for applying
modifiers (page
3–1068)
to objects and editing editable objects
such as meshes and p atches.
Hierarchy p anel (page 3–816)
Cont ains controls for managing links in a
hierarchy, joints, and inverse kinematics.
Motion panel (page 3–817)
Contains controls for animation controllers
and trajectories.
Display panel (page 3–818)
Contains controls that let you hide and unhide
objects, along with other display options
Ut i lities panel (page 3–821)
Contains miscellaneous utility programs, most
of which are plug-ins to 3ds Max.
By default, the command pa nel appears at the rig ht
of the 3ds Max window. You can "dock" it along
other edges of the program window , or make it a
floating panel. See
