You can’t adjust the hotspot larger than the falloff,
because that would change the falloff value.
Likewise, when you reduce the falloff, it stops at
the hotspot size (in both cases, separated by the
angle separation (p age 3–863)
,specifiedonthe
Rendering page of the Preferences dia log).
To override the separation of the hotspot and
falloff parameters and cause the parameters to
affect each other, hold down the SHIFT key.

Procedure
To change a light’s fa lloff:
1.
Set up a Perspective viewport so you can see
the light in 3D space.
2. Activate a Light viewport.
3. Press H to display the Select Object dialog.
Select the light.
Thelightanditsconesshouldbevisibleinthe
Perspective viewport.
4. Click Lig ht Falloff.
The button highlights when it is on.
5. Drag in the Light view port to change the falloff
angle.
The gray falloff cone expands and contracts as
you drag.
• Drag down to widen (increase) the falloff
angleandilluminatemoreofthescene.
•Draguptonarrow(decrease)thefalloff
angleandilluminatelessofthescene.Asits
angle decreases, the falloff shrinks around
the hotspot. By default, the falloff cone can
be no smaller than the hotspot cone.
• Hold down SHIFT as you drag to override
the default. This lets the hotspot cone
decrease in size as you decrease the size of
the falloff cone.
• HolddownCTRLasyoudragtolockthe
initial angle separation of the hotspot and
falloff cones.
6. Press ESC or rig ht-click to turn off the button.
Truck L ight
Activate a light viewport. > V iewport navigation controls
>TruckLight
TruckLightmovesatargetlightanditstarget
parallel to the light view, and moves a free light
along its XY axis.
Trucking a light
To constrain trucking of an y viewport to a single
axis, hold down the SHIFT key. The t ruck is
constrained to the first axis you move while the
SHIFT key is down.
To accelerate trucking, hold down the CTRL key.
Note: This button replaces the Pan button when a
lightviewportisactive.
