the exported file if you need to change either of
these settings. Model Size does
not
include lights
and cameras, which mig ht be outside the extents
of the renderable geometry.
Entire Scene and Selected ObjectsThese radio
buttons select whether all o bjec ts in the scene are
exported, or only selected objects.
Length Tol erance—The tolerance between points
that wi ll be welded together when forming
quadrilaterals. Points closer than this distance are
welded.Thedistanceisgivenintheunitsselected
in the Master Units drop-down list. This value
becomes the Length Tolerance in Lightscape.
Text ure Path from Files—Specifies whether the
texture path list the exporter outputs will contain
directories generated from the textures in a scene.
The texture path list the expor ter w rites will
always contain the directories specified on the
External Files panel (page 3–855)
of the Configure
User Paths dialog. When you turn this option
on, additional directories con taining textures are
added to the path lis t. See

Importing Lightscape Files
Just as you can export a Lightscape Preparation
(LP) file, you can also import one into 3ds Max.
You can also import Lig htscape Solution (LS) and
Lightscape View (VW) files.
The steps to import a Lightscape file include:

Note: The Lightscape importer does not convert
Lightscape layers into 3ds Max scene layers,
because it was written before that feature was
implement ed.
Procedures
To impor t a Lightsca pe (LS, V W, or LP ) f ile:
1.
Choose File > Import.
The Select File To Import dialog is displayed.
2. Choose Lightscape (*.LS, *.VW, *.LP) from the
Files Of Type d rop-down list.
3. U se the dialog’s controls to browse to the
directory that contains the file you want to use.
Highlight the name of that file, and then click
Open.
Depending on the ty pe of file you chose, an
Import Lightscape Preparation dialog (page
3–619)
or an
Impor t Lightscape Solution dialog
(page 3–620)
is displayed.
No dialog is displayed when you import a
Lightscape view (VW ) file.
To repla ce the curr ent scene:
When you import a Lightscape Solution or
Preparation file, you can choose to add t he
imported objects to the current scene, or to replace
entire scene.
In the Import Lightscape Preparation dialog,
turn on Replace Current Scene.
