606 Chapter 20: Managing Scenes and Projects
Use Attenua tion—
Selects the Use Attenuation
method for converting lights with range
attenuation.
Preserve S potli ght Angl es—Selects how spotlight
angles are converted from 3ds Max to Lig htscape.
When this option is off, the Lightscape b eam angle
is set to the angle where the 3ds Max intensity is
one-half of the spotlight intensity, which matches
the Lightscape intensity at the beam angle. When
this option is on, the Lightscape beam angle is
set to the hotspot angle. The 3ds Max intensity
at the hotspot angle is the full spotlight intensity,
which is significantly different from the Lightscape
intensity at the beam angle. You should only
turn this opt ion on if you want to enter a specific
Lightscape beam angle for your spotlights in
3ds Max.
Lightscape Lights grou p
Rel at ive Ph otometr ic Web Paths —Use this option if
your scene contains photometric lights with web
distributions. When this option is on, exported
luminaire definitions contain only the relative path
oftheIESfileandtheabsolutepathisaddedtothe
Lightscape doc u ment path list. When this option
isoff,theabsolutepathoftheIESfileappearsin
the luminaire definition.

Average Map Color for Projectors—Use this option
to av erage the texture map colors and include
them in the filter color of the exported light. This
is available only for bitmap textures.
UseCurrentLightObjectSettings—Use this option
to base the luminaire processing settings on the
settings of the 3ds Max light objects. You might
want to use this option if you plan on importing
your resulting Lightscape solution b ack into
3dsMax.Theoptionsaredeterminedasfollows:
•
Cast Shado ws —This option will be set
accordingtothe3dsMaxlightShadow
Parameters Cast Shadows setting.
•
Store Direct I llumination—If the 3ds Max light
is turned on, this option will be disabled. If the
3dsMaxlightisturnedoff,thisoptionwillbe
enabled.
See the description of Store Direct Illumination
below.
•
Ray trace Direct I llumination—If Use Ray-Traced
Shadowsisonin3dsMax,thisoptionwillbe
enabled.
See the description of Rayt r ace Direct
Illumination below.
Over r ide L ight Obj ect Sett ings—Choose this
option to use the following check boxes to set the
luminaire processing options. The 3ds Max light
object settings will b e overridden.
•
Cast Shadows—When on, turns on the
Lightscape Cast Shadows processing option for
all luminaire s. If you disable this option, light
energy is distributed to each surface as if there
were no other surfaces blocking it.
•
Store Direct I llumination—When on, turns on
the Lightscape Store Direct Illumination toggle
forallluminaires.Thiscausesilluminationto
be stored in the radiosity mesh. If you disable
this option, only indirect lighting will be
calculated; direct illumination from the lights
will not appear in the radiosity solution.
•
Ray trace Direct I llumination—When on, turns
ontheLightscapeRaytraceDirectIllumination
toggleforallluminaires.Thiscauseslighttobe
sampled when Lightscape raytr aces the model
for rendering. Ray-traced direct illumination
can improve shadow quality.
Tip: In general, it is a good idea to give Store
Direct Illumination and Ray trace Direct
Illumination opposite values: turn off one when
the other is on. If you ray-trace lights that are
