Model S ize—Incoming geometry is evaluated
to determine its bounding box size. This field
displays the scene extents based on three factors:
• Incoming file units
•Systemunitsin3dsMax
•Displayunitsin3dsMax

Rescale—Allows rescaling of the incoming
geometry by a factor corresponding to the most
commonunittypeused.Theimporterwilltryto
detect the units of the DWG file being imported,
compare those units with the 3ds Max system
units, and provide the appropriate conversion
factor.
For example: if a drawing file is built in millimeters
and 3ds Max has its System Units set to inches, the

Note: Iftheunitsareunspecifiedinthedrawing,
the drop-down list w ill appear blank. In this case,
iftheImportbuttonispressedandtheRescale
toggle is turned on, you are prompted to select a
value for Incoming File Units, and returned to the
AutoCAD DWG/DXF Import Options dialog.
Incoming File Units—This drop-dow n shows the
base units in the incoming file.

Combine O bj ects by La yer —When this option is
on, any objects on a given layer in the AutoCAD
draw ing will be made p art of a single Editable Mesh
or Editable Spline when imported into 3ds Max.
The names of each imported object are based on
the AutoCAD object’s laye r. The imported object
namehasa“Layer:”prefixandisfollowedbythe
layer name. For example, all AutoCAD objects
residing on the layer WALLS b ecome part of the
Editable Mesh named Layer:Walls, after they are
imported to 3ds Max.
Note: When this option is on, the import behavior
is equivalent to choosing L ayers, Blocks As Node
Hierarchy in the
Advanced Settings panel (page
3–438)
of the File Link Manager. When this option
is off, the behavior is equivalent to choosing Entity,
Blocks As Node Hierarchy on the same panel.
Use Ex t rud e Modi fier to R epresent T hick nes s—When
on, objects w ith thickness receive an Extrude
modifier to represent the thickness value. You can
then access the parameters of this modifier and
