object for an
existing
XRefobject,thisisresolved
by object name. In this case, if the XRef source
file contains multiple objects with the same name,
3ds Max might not properly define which one will
be used.
Interf ace
Tip: You can resize the XRef Objects dialog. This
can be useful if you want to see all of t he columns
in the XRef Entities list. You can also adjust the
relative height of the two lists in the dialog: dra g
thehorizontallinethatisjustabovetheXRef
Entities toolbar (the lower of the two toolbars).
XRef Record toolbar
Use these tools to create and update XRef records.
Create XR ef R ecord f r om File—Launches a file
dialogsoyoucanselectthesourcefileforyour
XRef record. When you a select a file, the
XRef
Merge dialog (page 3–416)
appears.
Any
transform
animation assig ned to the s ource
objects can b e merged along with the XRef object
itself,butitwillnotbeupdatedwiththesource
object.
Remove XRef R ecord—Deletes the highlighted
XRef records after you confirm the action. All
entities associated with the highlighted records
are removed.
Note: Once you have removed an XRef record, you
cannot undo this action.
Comb ine XRef Re co rd s—Click to combine
the contents of more than one XRef record into
one record. This is useful when you want to clean
up the organization of your XRef records. Rather
than having multiple entries of the same file, you
cangroupalloftheobjectsandmaterialsfrom
that file under the same record. This button is
available only when you hig hlight two records
that refer to the same file; both records must have
identical settings. XRef records must refer to the
same file with the same XRef ent ities. Combine
XRefRecordsonlyallowsyoutoconsolidateallof
the entities of one file into one XRef record entry.
It does not allow you to combine the contents of
different files, even if t he files have the same name.
Update—Refreshes the contents of all
XRefs. If the objects, m aterials, or manipulators
referenced have changed in the source scene, you
w i ll see these changes in you r target scene.
Note: The changes must be saved in the source file
before you see them in the t arget file.
