Show Home Grid toggles the display of the home
grid (page 3–952) intheactiveviewport.
Grids are used both as visual references and as
physica l snap references by the Snap system. In
addition, grids are construction planes, since the
objectsyoucreatearebuiltontheactivegridin
the active v iewport.
Asadefault,thereisahomeconstructiongrid
called home grid. The home grid is the basic
reference system, and is defined by three fixed
planes on the world coordinate axes. I t provides
ready-to-use construct ion planes, intersecting at
right angles through the origin. When the home
grid is displayed, each orthographic viewport (page
3–986) is coplanar (parallel) with one of the g rid
faces.
Procedure
To toggle t he dis play of the home gr id, do one of
the f ollowing:
• Choose Views menu > Grids, and click Show
Home Grid.
• Right-click a viewport label and click Show
Grid on the viewport right-click menu.
•Press
G on the keyboard.
Activate Home Gr id
Activate a grid other than the Home grid. > Views menu
>Grids>ActivateHomeGrid
This command activates the home grid (page
3–952) as the construction grid, and deactivates
the active grid object (page 3–951).
Procedure
To return to the home grid, do one of the following:
• ChooseViewsmenu>Grids>ActivateHome
Grid.
• Right-click the selected grid object, and choose
Activate Home Grid from the quad menu.
This deact ivates the grid object and ac tivates
thehomegridinallviews.

Selectagridobject.>Viewsmenu>Grids>Activate
Grid Object
This command ac t ivates the selected grid object
(page 3–951) as the construction grid and
deactivates the home g rid (page 3–952).Thismenu
item is available only when a grid object is selected.
Procedure
To a ctivate a grid object:
1.
Select a gr id object.
2. Do one of the follow ing:
• ChooseViewsmenu>Grids>Activate
Grid Object.
• Right-clicktheselectedgridobjectand
choose Activa te Grid from the quad men u.
The g rid object changes to show its internal
grid structure. Except for its main axes, the
home grid disappears in all viewports.
