Explicit Axis Keys 297
Explicit Ax is K eys
The XYZ cont rollers assign an individual track
totheX,Y,andZcomponentsoftheposition,
rotation, or scale of an object. However, the
controllersalwaysassignthreekeys(oneforeach
axis), by default.
In previous versions of the software, you had to
manually edit the keys in order to create explicit
axis keys. Howev er, there are now actions available
from the Customize U ser Int erface dialog (page
3–792) that let you create explicit keys with the
touch of a button.
When an explicit key is created on an axis, any
keys on the two remaining axes (at the selected
time) w ill be deleted.
An explicit axis key can only b e assigned to objects
that already have an XYZ controller assigned to
their position, scale, or rotation tracks.
You can a lso use Keyable Icons to turn on or off

only specified PRS X, Y or Z axes as well. See
Keyable Icons (page 2–531).

default user interface. You can use the Customize
User Interface dialog to assign a keyboard shortcut
to them or add them to your toolbars or menus
if you want to use them.
K ey Position X, Y, or Z—Creates an explicit key on
the designated position a xis.
KeyRotationX,Y,orZCreates an explicit key on
the desig nated rotation axis.
Key Scale X, Y, or ZCreates an explicit key on the
designated scale axis.

Floa t Cont rol ler s
The following controllers are available only for
parameters that use the Float data type.
On/O f f Contr oll er
An On/O ff controller (page 2–355) controls
parameters using binary on and off values. The
On/Off track displays a solid blue color in frames
that are on, and t he background in frames that
areoff.Theon/offstateoftheparameterswitches
every time you add a key.

B oolea n Control ler
The Boolean Controller is a var iation on
the O n/Off controller. It provides a similar
functionality, but with one significant difference.
The on/off state of the parameter does not switch
automat ically every time you add a key. This
allows you to effectively add keys in the middle of
a sequence without creating unintended drastic
changes.
Wave form Co n tro ll er
A Waveform controller (page 2–381) generates
values by combining periodic waveforms. You
can specify different ty pes of waveforms and add
waveforms together to c reate complex animation.
