1604 Chapter 16: Material Editor, Materials, and Maps
zero, no bump mapping is done for indirect light.
Increasing Indirect Light Bump Scale increases the
bump effect under indirect lighting. This value
does not affect the Bump amount in areas where
the base material is lit directly. Cannot be less than
zero. Default=1.0.
Tip: This parameter is useful because indirect
bumpmappingissimulatedandnotalways
accurate. Indirect Light Bump Scale lets you adjust
the effect by hand.

Lightscape Mtl
The Lightscape m aterial lets you set radiosit y
behav ior for 3ds Max materials you want to use in
existing Lig htscape radiosity meshes.
Note: This m aterial is for use with Lightscape. It
is not meant for use with the advanced lighting
solution in 3ds Max. For adjusting a material’s
radiosity properties in 3ds Max, use the Advanced
Lighting Overr ide material (page 2–1601).
Impor tant: The mental ray renderer (page 3–78) does
not suppo rt the Lightscape material.

Br ightness—Cont rols the brightness of t he
displayed image on your monitor. The setting of
this control does not affect the act ual lighting levels
in the model. Note: The default value is exactly
thesameasthevaluessetintheImportLightscape
Solution dialog.
Co ntrast—Controls the contrast between light and
dark regions in t he model. Note: The default value
is exactly the same as the va lues set in the Import
Lightscape Solution dia l og.
Ambient Light—Cont rols the amount of 3ds Max
ambient light that will be mixed in with the
radiosity calculations. If the value is 0, none of the
3ds Max ambient lig ht is used. If the va lue is 1 ,
the 3ds Max ambient light value is added into the
radiosity calculations. Default=0.0.
Bump Amount—This value controls the strength
of the bump map that is applied to the lighting
from Lightscape, as opposed to lighting done by
3ds Max. It can be separately cont rolled f rom the
bump amount in the 3ds Max material, so you can
adjust the bumps in Lightscape lighting to match
the bumps in 3ds Max lighting. Default=5.0.
Daylight—Determines whether you want natural
daylight to b e used in the c a lculation. Note: The
default value is exac tly the same as the values set in
the Import Lightscape Solution dialog.
