the Fast Adaptive Antialiaser dialog (page
2–1533).

Multiresolution Adaptive A ntialiaser—Clicking

Antialiaser dialog (page 2–1534).
Global R aytrace Engine Options group
Theseoptionsarecomparabletothelocaloptions
on Extended Parameters rollout (page 2–1519) and
the Raytracer Controls rollout (page 2–1521).Their
setting affects all Raytrace materials and R aytrace
maps in the scene, unless you set local overrides.
Note: In versions prior to 3ds Max 5,thesecontrols
were found on the Raytracer Options dialog,
which is no longer present.
Enable Raytr acing—Turnstheraytraceronoroff.
Default=on.
Even w ith raytracing off, Ray trace material
and Raytrace map still reflect and refract the
environment, incl uding both the environment
map for the scene, and the environment map
assigned to the Raytrace material.
Raytrace Atmospherics—Turns the raytracing
of atmospheric effects on or off. A tmospheric
effectsincludefire,fog,volumelight,andsoon.
Default=on.
Enable S elf R eflect/Refract—Turns self
reflection/refract ion on or off. Default=on.
Can an object reflect itself? For example, a teapot’s
body reflects the teapot’s hand le, but a sphere will
never reflect itself. If you don’t need this effect, you
can improve render time by turning off this toggle.
Tip: If you have a transparent object such as glass,
and Enable Self Reflect/Refract is on, you don’t
have to m ake the object 2-sided (page 3–901).The
raytracer sees back faces when exiting refractive
objects.
Reflect/Refract Material IDs—When on, the
material reflects effects assigned to material IDs
in the renderer’s G-buffer (page 3–946) on or off.
Default=on.
By default, Rayt r ace material and Ray tr ace map
reflect effects assig ned to a material’s ID, so that
G-buffer effects a re not lost. For example, if a
raytraced object reflects a lamp made to g low with
the Video Post Glow filter (Lens Effects Glow), the
reflectionglowsaswell.
Render objects inside r aytr aced objects—Turn s the
rendering of objects inside raytraced objects on
or off. Default=on.
Render atmospher ics i nside r ayt ra ced
obj ects —
Turns the rendering of atmospheric
effects inside r aytraced objects on or off.
At mospher ic effects include fire, fog, volume light,
and so on. D efault=on.
Enable Color Density / Fog Ef fects—Turns the color
density and fog features on or off.
Acceleration Controls—Click to display the
Raytracing Acceleration Parameters dialog (page
2–1531), which lets you adjust settings.
Exclude—Click to display the Raytrace
Exclude/Include dialog (page 2–1531),whichlets
you exclude objects from ray-tracing.
Show Progr ess Dia log—When on, rendering
displays a window with progress bars titled
Raytrace Engine Setup. D efault=on.
Show M essages—When on, displays a window,
Raytrace Messages, that shows status and progress
messages from the raytrace engine. Default=off.
