contains the particle diagram, and provides a
complete range of intuitive functions for editing
theparticlesystem.

Editing the Par ticle Diagra m and Par ticle
System
Interactive functionality in event display includes
the followi ng:
General
To add an act ion to the par ticle system, drag it
from the depot to the event display. If you drop
it in an empty area of the event display, it creates
a new event. If you drag it to an existing event,
the result depends on w hether a red line or a
blue line appears when you drop it. If a red l ine,
the new action replaces the underlying action.
If a blue line, the ac tion is inserted in the list.
To edit an action’s p arameters, click its name
in an event. The parameters appear on the
rightsideofParticleView. Ifnot,itmeans
the parameters panel is hidden; to display it,
choose Display menu > Parameters.

from its test output, the blue dot that by default
sticks out to the left of the test, to the event’s
event input, which sticks out from the top, or
vice-versa. Similarly, you c an wire a global
event to a birth event by dragg ing be tween the
source output on the bottom of the global event

tothefirstdepictedimagewhenyoucanbegin
this operation, and to the second image when
you can complete it.
To pan or zoom the event display, use the
controls available from the Display menu (page
2–129),theright-click menu (page 2–133),oras
icons at the bottom-right of the dialog.
Modifying Actions and Events in t he Event
Display
To change the color used by a Display operator,
click its color swatch to the right of its name.
To toggle an operator (that is, turn it off
and on), click its icon in the ev ent. The mouse
cursor changes to the depicted image when this
action is po ssible.
A turned-off operator does not affect the
particle system, and appears as gray in the event
list; however, its parameters are sti ll available
for editing.
Toggling an instanced operator doesn’t affect
its other instances.
To toggle an event (that
is,turnitoffandon),clickthelight-bulbicon
next to its name in the title bar. Turning off
an event is equivalent to turning off all of its
