Shortcut—
Double-click a sample slot to display
the magnified window.
The mag nify window’s t itle bar displays the
contents of the editable material name field (page
2–1448). It varies depending on which level of the
material is active.
Auto—Tur n off to prevent th e m agnifi ed w i ndow
from updating automatically. This can save
rendering time, especially when you have
resized the magnified window to make it larger.
Default=on.
Update—Click to update the magnified window.
ThisbuttonisunavailableunlessAutoisturned
off.
Dragging a different sample slot to the magnify
window changes the contents of the magnify
window.
Sample Windows options
The Material Editor always has 24 sample slots
available. You can choose to display fewer sample
slots at a larger size. When you do, scroll bars let
youmovearoundamongthesampleslots.
3X2SampleWindows—Displays a 3 x 2 ar ray of
sample slots. (The default: 6 windows.)
5X3SampleWindows—Displays a 5 X 3 ar ray of
sample slots. (15 windows.)
6X4SampleWindows—Displays a 6 X 4 ar ray of
sample slots. (24 windows.)

You can move materials from sample slots to
objects using a drag-and-drop operation. You can
also drag to and from map and m aterial buttons.
See the following lists to determine where in the
interface you can drag from and drag to.
When dragging materials, use the Undo command
(page 1–94) to cancel material assignments.
Where You Can Drag From
• Sample Slots (page 2–1420)
The content you drag from a sample slot is
always at the top level of the sample slot,
regardless of which level is currently displayed.
Ifthesampleslotcontainsamaterial,youcan’t
dragfromthesampleslottoamapbutton,even
if you’re at the map level of the m aterial.
